INDONESIA TO ISSUE NEW FRACTIONAL MONEY

Jakarta, (Kominfo-Newsroom)�Bank Indonesia (BI) shortly will issue new fractional money (the paper) of Rp 2,000 in the second semester of 2008 to meet the public needs of small changes of fractional money.

Deputy Governor of BI Budi S. Rochadi said Friday (29/2) issuing the Rp 2,000 of fractional money, in order to minimize the cost, in the coming 2009, BI will not issue the fractional money in the form of paper money of Rp 1,000; it will be changed into fractional coins.

Besides, fractional paper money of Rp. 1,000 has been often frayed urging the BI to reprint the new one. Therefore, BI is determined that it changes the Rp. 1,000 fractional money into fractional coins.

In 2008, Indonesia needs new paper money as much as 5,5 billion of bilyet. Therefore, we want to reduce the printing cost,� he said.

Meanwhile, in its announcement, BI stated that the auction of one month BI certificate reached Rp 104,73 trillion. The BI certificate will be due on March 27, 2008. Also in its announcement, BI stated that for 3-month-BI certificate (91 days) the auction reached Rp 24,81 trillion. It will be due on May 29, 2008.
